Light and Earth Trivia : Why is the sea blue?
Why is the sea blue?
The reason why the sea is blue is that water looks blue to begin with.
The water has a property to slightly absorb red light.
Red light of the sunlight is absorbed in the water.
As blue light proceeds without being absorbed and is scattered in various directions to reach the eye, sea looks blue.
Most of the visible rays are not absorbed in the molecules of the water, but red light extremely close to the infrared rays is slightly absorbed.
As a result, the blue light is relatively emphasized to be recognized to our eyes as the red light is weakened.
By the way, when we are in the sea, it is almost completely dark.
Any light hardly penetrates deeper than 200 meters (656 feet), and no light penetrates deeper than 2,000 meters (3,280 feet ).
